Newer Times Privacy Policy
1. The short version
- Newer Times is free and has no ads in the News Feed. We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone, we don't share it with anyone for their own advertising or marketing, and we don't build advertising profiles about you.
- You choose who sees your profile details and posts.
- We never use automatic face recognition.
- We collect what we need to run the site, keep it safe and follow the law.
Newer Times LLC, 8 The Green #27201, Dover, DE 19901, runs Newer Times and is responsible for your information.

3. Information collected automatically
- Security checks. To stop spam and repeated attempts, we briefly use your IP address in a scrambled form for sign-up and verification limits. We also count wrong passwords and password-reset requests for 15 to 60 minutes to stop password guessing. These temporary records expire on their own.
- Activity. The last day you were active, and counts of how many members were active each day.
- How you found us. For example a search engine, a social media site, a college newspaper ad, a marketing link tag, or a friend's invitation. We use this to see which outreach works.
- Cookies and browser storage. Only what the site needs, such as keeping you signed in. See the Cookie Policy.
- Server logs. Our web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. These logs are kept for a limited time and then deleted.
- No advertising or analytics trackers. Newer Times doesn't use Google Analytics, Facebook pixels or similar advertising or analytics trackers.
4. How we use your information
- To create and run your account, including verifying your email and checking that you're 18 or older.
- To show your profile and posts to the people your settings allow.
- To send notifications on the site and by email, for example friend requests, comments, wall posts, spots, birthday cards and moderation notices.
- To suggest people you may know based on shared interests, and to show friends' birthdays.
- To send invitations you ask us to send, in your name. Each invitation includes a way for the person to stop receiving them.
- To show weather for the ZIP code you enter.
- To keep Newer Times safe: reviewing reports, preventing spam and abuse, enforcing our rules, and meeting legal duties like reporting child exploitation.
- To send Newer Times news and offers by email, only if you opted in. You can opt out any time.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it.
We don't use your information for targeted advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't use AI to change or analyze your photos.
5. Who can see your information
- Other members see what your settings allow (section 7). Your name and profile photo are always visible to members, for example on your posts and comments.
- People you invite see your name in the invitation.
- Our moderators and administrators. When something is reported, moderators see the reported content and a private evidence copy of it. That includes a reported private message. Administrators also have technical access to the site's database, which holds messages. Messages aren't end-to-end encrypted. We don't read private messages except to handle reports, keep the site safe or follow the law. Suspected child exploitation is handled only by administrators, without previews.
6. Companies that help us run Newer Times
Like every website, Newer Times uses a few trusted companies to run the site. They receive information only as needed to provide their service to us, in these categories:
- Website hosting, storage, backups and email delivery
- Video storage and streaming for Clips
- Maps, weather forecasts and alerts, and ZIP code lookups, which receive your IP address or the location of a ZIP code you enter, never your name
- Website fonts, which receive your IP address when a page loads
These companies may not use your information for their own advertising or for anything other than providing their service to us.
We may also share information:
- with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as federal law requires for suspected child exploitation;
- with law enforcement or others when the law requires it, or to protect someone from serious harm;
- if Newer Times is sold or merged, in which case we will tell you first.

| Your posts, photos, comments and profile | Until you delete them or your account. Deleting a post also deletes its photos from our server |
| Clips | The original upload is deleted from our video provider after 30 days. The streaming version stays until you delete the clip or your account; we then delete it from our video provider, check that it's gone, and retry daily if needed |

| Suspected child exploitation material | Sealed and kept for at least 1 year, as federal law requires |
| Moderation records (warnings, suspensions, bans) and the banned-email list | Kept so that a permanently banned member can't rejoin. Banned email addresses are stored only in scrambled form. |
| Backups | Our web host's daily backups. Backups are kept for a limited time and then replaced by newer ones. |
9. Your rights and choices
- See and change your profile details any time in Edit profile, and your email address and password in Settings.
- Download your information yourself in Settings › Download your information. You get a .zip file with your profile, interests, work and education, settings, posts and wall posts, comments, messages you sent, friends, birthdays, spots, the members you blocked, and your photos. It can only be downloaded while you're signed in, and it's deleted after 48 hours.
- Deactivate your account in Settings. Your profile, posts and photos are hidden, and nobody can message you or send you friend requests. Your friends, photos and settings are kept. Signing in again reactivates it.
- Delete your account in Settings, with your password and a final confirmation. We delete your account, profile, posts, comments, photos, clips (including the videos stored by our video provider), friends list and Newer Times settings. Some information remains:
- messages you sent stay in your friends' conversations, shown as from a "Former member";
- posts others shared from yours show "This post is no longer available";
- moderation records and evidence copies, for the periods above;
- material on legal hold;
- backups, until they are replaced.
- You may join again later after deleting your account. Banned members may not.
- Block members from their profile (⋯ › Block), and review or remove blocks in Settings.
- Stop emails. Opt out of marketing email in Edit profile, choose notification emails in Settings, and use the link in any invitation to stop invitations.
For anything you can't do in Settings, email legal@newertimes.com. We respond within 30 days and may need to confirm it's really you.
10. Security
We protect your information with safeguards suited to a site of our size. Passwords are stored scrambled. Verification and invitation links are random, and only scrambled versions are stored. Service keys are kept out of the database. Sign-up, sign-in, verification and password-reset attempts are limited, reset links expire after 1 hour, you're emailed whenever your password or email address changes, and moderation evidence is stored outside the public website folder where possible. The site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Adults only
Newer Times is only for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. When someone under 18 tries to sign up, we don't keep their details. If you think a member is under 18, report them at legal@newertimes.com and we will close the account.
12. Where information is stored
Newer Times is run from the United States. Your information is stored on servers operated by our web host and our video provider. Newer Times is offered only to people who live in the United States.
13. Changes to this policy
We will post any update here. For a major change, we will tell you on Newer Times or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect.
